Giving it up for Pantene Beautiful Lengths.

The girls have benefitted from having two much older second cousins to emulate. Ashley weaves, and has exposed the girls to weaving...and Kaleena has donated her hair to various organizations. The girls have thought it would be nice to follow suit. So, after growing their hair for nine and seven years....it was time for Ainsley and Kaley to donate. Before we made the cut, I did some research on Locks for Love- you can read about it here.... http://www.squidoo.com/locksoflove, and after reading the questionable tactics by L for L, the girls decide that they wanted to support Pantene's Beautiful Lengths program, instead. http://www.pantene.com/en-US/article/about_beautiful_lengths.jspx
First up, Ainsley-
Yikes, I am a bit nervous

Oh my goodness-

I will take this to school tomorrow for show and tell.

Bye Bye long hair- Kaley

UUUUHHHHMMMMM....I don't know that I am ready to give up my hair that I've grown attached to over the last seven years.

Ready, Set, Cut!

And there it is.... Once on my head, now in my hand.

It will take some getting use to. Kaley kept squirmming and her cut was getting shorter and shorter. It turned out cute and now two of her little friends have cut their hair shorter, too...to be like Kaley.

All done-

Getting my hair one even length.

Girl Scout service project

While mom and dad were here, we recuited mom to help with a Girl Scout service project. We went to Carriage Court, a retirement facility, and made door hangers with the residents. The girls worked well with the Seniors..somehow I managed to miss getting a photo of both mom and Ainlsey :(

Blue Manatee for Ainsley's BD

Ainsley had her 9th birthday at our favorite bookstore, Blue Manatee. The girls had a Manatea Party and made beads from Polymer clay, which once cooked, they strung the beads into necklaces or bracelets. Ainsley requested that her friends adopt one of the new Manatees at the zoo for her.

The two new Manatees at the zoo are babies, names CC and Turner. These were cookies, which were given to the girls as party favors.

Kaley's Cucina

Kaley's Lasagna Party. 15 girls making their own Lasagne's. Thank goodness we had lots of hands to help. Another party, which couldn't be done w/out Mom, Dad and Michael. Thanks for all your help.

These aren't going to be in order and there are too many to try to move them around....so bear with me while I explain!

In Lieu of gifts, it was requested that Kaley's friends adopt a Giraffe from the zoo in her name. She also was given a Giraffe Webkinz, which she named Sheila.

Kaley w/ Chloe, a 5th grader from school, who came to help at the party.

wooden spoon dolls the girls made as a craft- they turned out really cute.

the Silly Chefs!

The boys next door were spying on the girls during lunch. You can see that this created all kinds of chaos.

Make a wish Kaley!

Observatory

Also on the list of places to visit and things to do...was go back to the observatory. We took the tour this time and found it to be very fascinating. They offer Stargazing at Stonelick Lake, which will be fun to attend some Saturday evening. Sounds like people set up their telescopes, everyone Grills Out (BBQ's) and watches the stars.

Zoo

We had a list of things to do with Poppi and Nana. On the list was to go to the zoo. Our zoo is such a beautiful place and we go there often....

For Ainsley's birthday, she asked that her friends help her to adopt one of our new manatees. Here she is with C.C.

For Kaley's bd, she asked that her friends help her adopt a giraffe. Here is Kaley with "her" giraffe. Mom was quick with the camera and snapped this picture. I don't think we could've planned it any better.

What is it.... Nana and Poppi?

Mom and Dad brought a little something for the girls. A Singer Featherweight sewing machine....just like the one on which I learned to sew some 34 years ago. The machine is from 1952 and mom found it at an estate sale. The girls were thrilled to have their own machine!
